A depressive disorder is an illness that involves the body, mood, and thoughts. It affects the way a person eats and sleeps, the way one feels about oneself, and the way one thinks about things. A depressive disorder is not the same as a passing blue mood. It is not a sign of personal weakness or a condition that can be willed or wished away. |
| What the test measures |
The MCQ is a depression screening instrument. The information provided by the questionnaire is not a substitute for a proper and correct diagnosis, however, and should not be regarded as providing medical advice or suggested treatment which can only be decided by a health care professional. |
| Theory behind the test |
The MCQ assesses nine dimensions of mood that are recognized by the American Psychiatric Association as symptoms of depression. The test also assesses whether you are experiening some physical health symptoms commonly associated with mood disorders, and critical life incidents that often produce mood change. |
