| Background |
People in supportive, loving relationships are more likely to feel healthier, happier and satisfied with their lives and less likely to have mental or physical health problems. Most people want to have a stable long-term relationship but the statistics show that it is difficult to achieve. One in three first marriages ends in divorce as do two in three second marriages. |
| What the test measures |
The RDQ assesses one partner's views and experience of the other partner's attitudes and behaviours in twelve areas. These cover: autonomy, control and commitment; relatedness and communication; responsibilities, disagreements and conflict resolution; and, attraction, affection, romance and sex. | Theory behind the test |
Research indicates that there are two groups of critical success factors in a relationship. One group of factors is about things such as attraction, affection, romance and sex - the things that initially draw people together. The second group covers relationship handling skills, skills such as control, commitment, communication, conflict resolution and sharing of responsibilities, the factors that help build trust in marriage. |
